The R3F / MBBR biofilm process is a relatively recent technology in France able to treat organic and nitrogen matters from domestic wastewaters. Its advantage is its compactness due to the development of a significant quantity of bacterial biomass in a tank with low surface area. Thus, the R3F / MBBR process is a relevant solution for nitrogen treatment in a difficult property context. The principle of this technology is the plastic carriers of few centimeters use, on which a bacterial biofilm grows. These carriers freely move in the tank thanks to a air flow rate or a mixing.
