Probe-based Confocal Laser Endomicroscopy (pCLE) is an imaging modality that requires placing a probe in contact with a tissue and provides real-time images of micrometer resolution. Many studies confirmed the clinical relevance of replacing physical biopsies by optical biopsies. In abdominal surgery, this technology could replace extemporaneous biopsies. The benefits are shorter operating time and less invasiveness. Classically, the clinicians analyze the cells themselves but also the relative organization of cellular structures to track possible cancer cells.
