The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of two types of pollutants, Tributyltin (TBT) and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs), on MAP kinase signaling pathway activation and on apoptosis induction, on two marine invertebrates, the mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis and the sponge Suberites domuncula. It was shown that animal exposure to both chemicals depicted p38 activation for all tested experimental conditions. JNK was also activated after exposure to TBT, while for HAPs exposure, JNK was activated in the mussel while ERK was activated in the sponge.
