Graphene and carbon nanotubes, assimilated to graphitic nano-systems, share exceptional mechanical, optical, electronic and vibrational properties. Combining low mass, high stiffness, and semi-transparent behavior, membrane of thickness about 10 to 100 layers of graphene has been suspended over a reflecting substrate, making a mechanical resonator coupled to an optical cavity. This PhD project is based on elastic and inelastic scattering of light in order to probe mechanical stress and thermal effects within such graphitic nano-systems.
