This thesis is focused on the analysis of a topic that is still a “work in progress” in Sociology: social media. Although this tautological expression may be amazing at first sight, it appears that no academic definition of social media has been proposed to date. This gap in academic research illustrates that this topic is both recent and complex. Therefore, our research aims to conduct a contextual analysis of the emergence of a new media. This research is based on an empirical approach through the study of uses, practices and representations of social media users.
