Mesures à haute résolution et étude de la réaction de diffusion inélastique de neutrons sur le 56Fe

High resolution measurements of the neutron inelastic scattering cross section have beencarried out on an enriched 56Fe sample in the energy range from threshold (862 keV) upto about 3 MeV. The experiments were performed using the time of flight technique onthe 200 m flight path at the G¡mqe facility (Geel, Belgium) with a neutron burst widthof less than 2 ns, leading to a very good energy resolution. Four barium fluoridescintillators, mounted around the samples, detected the gamma-rays emitted by iron andboron nuclei. The l0Bln,alpha-gamma)7lireaction was used to monitor the neutron fluxand to normalize the cross section. Finally, the correlation between neutron elastic andinelastic partial widths has been studied. Previous measurements of natural irontransmission have also been taken into account
