The first part of this thesis deals with illumination on polygonal billiards and translation surfaces.We study the relationships between the finite blocking property (illumination property), pure periodicity (dynamical property) and being a torus branched covering (geometrical property).We show that those three properties are equivalent for the Veech surfaces, for the translation surfaces of genus 2, for the surfaces whose homology is generated by the periodic orbits of the geodesic flow and therefore on a dense open subset of full measure in every stratum of the moduli space of translation surfaces.The second part deals with symbolic dynamics.We give some bounds of the number of invariant ergodic probability measures of a subshift that de...
