This PhD thesis is part of the energy-management global issue and is focused on the battery packs for electric and hybrid vehicles. The latter receive an important stress during operation, leading to a significant temperature increase. In order to avoid any accelerated ageing, it is mandatory to size the battery and its cooling system accordingly.The proposed thermal models allow for an optimal sizing of the whole system. The model used for predicting the electrical losses has been improved to become stable during long driving cycles simulations. The coupling between thermal and electrochemical phenomena has been studied and this analysis led to new characterization methods.
