Ood resources must managed between human activities and sustainable exploitation. On Reunion Island, the marine park works more specifically to maintain fish populations with high commercial value, regularly exploited by traditional fishermen, such as the grouper Epinephelus merra (Serranidae), Acanthurus triostegus (Acanthuridae) and Plectroglyphidodon imparipennis (Pomacentridae) which pelagic larval phase remains unknown. To better understand this phase, the otolith microchemistry was used to trace the life histories for management purposes. Our results allowed differentiating grouper population in Reunion in 3 different groups of larval life histories, using barium concentration in their otoliths which can be enriched in the environment...
