Design Thinking

A design thinking process moves participants through systematic steps of \u27Empathy,\u27 \u27Define,\u27 \u27Ideate,\u27 \u27Prototype,\u27 and \u27Test.\u27 Of special note are the steps of \u27Empathy\u27 that steep the designer in learning about the user(s) of a design and their needs; \u27Ideate\u27 that involves visual brainstorming and sketching as part of the process; and \u27Prototyping\u27 that involved quick mock-ups of key ideas generated in physical form. Design thinking\u27s application reaches well beyond design of products to the design of systems and processes. It is possible now to engage small and large groups of people, particularly users of the system or process, in providing creative ideas to shape the designs and feedback to a design challenge. Design Thinking increases creative literacy by tapping often under-utilized creativity in our midst, to create futures of choice that work for the many rather than a few. Join this session to learn more about the design thinking process, what it offers libraries and library staff including examples of how it might be used to integrate innovation in the emerging libraries of the future
