Historically, developing countries have been heavily dependent on natural resources as a major source of national income. Despite their large resource endowments, countries have been subject to volatile commodity prices which might affect the economic development of a nation. A salient measure of development is the inequality that persists within an economy as it portrays relative levels of income distribution.
