The p21-activated kinase 5 (PAK5) is a serine/threonine protein kinase associated with the group 2 subfamily of PAKs. Although our understanding about PAK5 is very limited, it is receiving increasing interest due to its tissue specific expression pattern and important signaling properties. PAK5 is highly expressed in brain. Its overexpression induces neurite outgrowth in neuroblastoma cells and promotes survival in fibroblasts. The serine/threonine protein kinase Raf-1 is an essential mediator of Ras-dependent signaling that controls the ERK/MAPK pathway. In contrast to PAK5, Raf-1 has been the subject of intensive investigation. However due to the complexity of its activation mechanism, the biological inputs controlling Raf-1 activation ar...
