Tumor specific immunity is mediated by cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL) that recognize peptide antigen (Ag) in the context of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecules and by helper T (Th) lymphocytes that recognize peptide Ag in the context of MHC class II molecules. The purpose of this study is (1) to induce or augment the immunogenicity of nonimmunogenic or weakly immunogenic tumors by genetic modification of tumor cells, and (2) to use these genetically altered cells in cancer immunotherapy.
