Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a\ud substantial burden on healthcare systems. There are\ud a plethora of probiotic products on the market that\ud target gastrointestinal problems. This review aims\ud to guide the healthcare practitioner to make an\ud informed judgment when prescribing pro biotic\ud products for alleviating the symptoms of IBS, as\ud conventional medication has been found to have a\ud few adverse effects. Six recent systematic reviews and\ud 27 clinical trials were analysed. The microbial\ud content of twelve commercial products was\ud examined.
