In the article we attempt to answer questions concerning the location of the fundamental barriers to the assertion of women in science in Slovenia and what are the reasons for the vertical gender segregation that is revealed by statistical data and opinion studies. These questions will be answered through theoretical reflections and research data on differences in the working conditions and career paths in science between genders in Slovenia, with the research having been carried out on a sample of 1,100 doctors of science. The research results clearly support the hypothesis that gender remains a central element of institutional life in science in Slovenia, not in the classrooms but where the power, influence, prestige, reputation and money...
