In this paper, we will compare the Spanish play El cadalso para su dueño, by Manuel Fermín de Laviano, and Cimene Pardo, an Italian drama by Carlo Gozzi. First, we will point the role that each dramatist played in the translation of Italian plays to Spanish language, and vice versa. Next, we will offer the bibliographic information about the textual testimonies and premieres of each play. Then, we will contrast the characters, stage directions and plots of both plays.
