Los paisajes del viñedo en La Rioja: tradición y renovación

Vineyards landscapes express the special relationships among the natural, historical, functional and cultural aspects of the country and society that has managed them for generations. In this work we present the main features and landscape dynamics of Rioja vineyard, which has experienced very rapid changes since the eighties of the last century. The Rioja vineyard is located in the Ebro Depression and in the somontanos of the Iberian and the Cantabrian Mountains. It is characterized by small plots and young vines dominated by trellis arbors and red varieties, especially the tempranillo. The increase in the Rioja wine market and the improvement in the communications prompted the change of a highly fragmented landscape, requiring large amounts of work, to a more homogeneous and in profitable one, with changes in the plantation and tillage systems. In recent times the enotourism has added to the traditional visit to the winery, the knowledge of the vineyard landscape and the work of the vineyard, and it has become an important economic resource for viticultureLos paisajes del viñedo expresan la especial combinación que se da entre los aspectos naturales, históricos, funcionales y culturales de un territorio y de la sociedad que lo ha gestionado generación tras generación. En este trabajo se presentan las claves y la dinámica del paisaje del viñedo riojano, que ha vivido cambios muy rápidos desde los años ochenta del pasado siglo. En el presente, el viñedo se localiza en la Depresión del Ebro y los Somontanos del Sistema Ibérico y la Cordillera Cantábrica. Es, en general, un viñedo de parcelas pequeñas y de viñas jóvenes en las que cada vez es más importante el cultivo en espaldera y donde dominan las variedades tintas, especialmente el tempranillo. El incremento del mercado del vino de Rioja y la mejora de las comunicaciones impulsaron el paso de un paisaje muy fragmentado, que requería grandes cantidades de trabajo, a otro más homogéneo, de mayor rentabilidad económica, en el que cambian los marcos de plantación y los sistemas de laboreo. El turismo del vino o enoturismo es un importante recurso económico para la vitivinicultura. En los últimos tiempos el enoturismo ha incorporado, a la tradicional visita a las bodegas, el conocimiento del paisaje del viñedo y de las labores de la viña
