hierbijStudies have found a positive correlation between bullying behavior and the norm in the class. However they don’t discuss the influence of 1) bullying behavior of the class and 2) the bullying behavior of popular adolescents on the individual involvement of bullying. This thesis discusses the bullying behavior of the class and the popular classmates on the individual involvement by bullying behavior as a bully or as a victim of bullying. Besides, the moderating role of groupidentification on these relations is discussed. The participants were children from two different high schools in the Netherlands from group 1 to 4 (N = 1400; Mage = 13.71; 51.9% boys). The children filled in self-reports about groupidentification and the involvement by bullying. Popularity was measured through a peer nomination method. Current research shows that bullying behavior of the class and bullying behavior of the popular adolescents are significantly negative related to involvement of bullying. This study also found that the link between involvement by bullying and the bullying behavior of the class was significant moderated by groupidentification. Only low groupidentification was significantly negative related to the link between bullying behavior of popular adolescents and the involvement by bullying. It can be concluded that groupidentification is a significant moderator for the link between individual involvement by bullying and the bullying behavior of the class.
