Who do we become? : First generations immigrants ́ perspectives of identities and social and cultural integration 

Denna uppsats har för avsikt att undersöka immigranters perspektiv på sin vardagliga sociala och kulturella integration i Sverige. Genom intervjuer med fem informanter ska förståelsen för integration i vardagen nyanseras. Uppsatsen beskriver, identifierar och diskuterar faktorer för integration och hur integrationsprocesser i praktiken kan se ut i Sverige. Uppsatsen argumenterar för att se integration som en social och kulturell process, snarare än praktisk och teknisk, med målet att skapa en gemensam identitet. De sex områden som kommer att diskuteras är; (1) hur informanterna identifierar sig själva, (2) vad integration antas leda till, (3) informanternas associationer mellan integration och ett skapande av hem, (4) identiteter som ingångar till sociala och kulturella plattformar, (5) hur sociala och kulturella identitetsförhandlingar kan ske på plattformar, samt (6) informanternas upplevda sociala och kulturella utanförskap i gemenskap(er). The aim of this paper is to examine immigrants perspectives of their everyday social and cultural integration. Through interviews with five informants the understanding of integration in the everyday life will be nuanced. The paper describes, identifies and discusses different factors of integration and how the integration processes can and may look like in Sweden. The essay argue for a perspective of integration as a social and cultural process, rather then practical and technical, with a main purpose to create a common identity. The six areas that will be discussed is; (1) how the informants identify themselves, (2) what integration is assumed to lead to, (3) the informants associations between integration and a creation of home, (4) identities as entrances to social and cultural plattforms, (5) how negotiations of social and cultural identities can take place on different plattforms, and (6) the informants ́ feeling of social and cultural exclusion in inclusiveness
