Abstract

Pale yellow crystals of LiBa4[Mo2N7].BaCl2 (Monoclinic, P2(1)/m; a = 1113.5(3), b = 605.8(1), c = 1122.7(3) pm; beta = 95.65(2)-degrees; Z = 2) were grown from the melt (LiCl/Ba3[MoN4], molar ratio 3:1, T(max) = 1050-degrees-C) by cooling (5-degrees-C/h). The crystal structure contains dimeric units [Mo2N7]9- (eclipsed conformation; N-Mo-N: 173.7-degrees; Mo-N(term.): 182.7(5)-186.1(8) pm; Mo - N(bridg.): 190.6(8) and 192.3(8) pm)
