Limestone/Hum/Server Apparatus

Limelight (2016-20) aims to establish terms through which limestone as a geological material with industrial application, presents and holds agency. It aims to determine how exposures of limestone’s material agency are intrinsic to understanding the representations and experiences of its landscapes. Limestone/Hum/Server Apparatus was devised and built as a sonic apparatus to amplify and broadcast the processing hum of a computer server. It was deployed in Limelight (Polyspace, The NewBridge Project) linked output. It consists of a microphone attached to a piece of limestone which is weighted on the server to pick up the vibrations of its upload processing. This acoustic hum is amplified and played through the connected speaker
