Memorias de Papel: El Archivo Fotográfico y sus Lecturas

Given the unidirectional power exercised by the creators and custodians of photographic archives, some contemporary artists, such as Satu Mofoken, Ayana V. Jackson and Penélope Umbrico, have produced works that question their subjective narratives. This essay analyses the creative strategies explored by these artists to contest the power dynamics exercised within the archive, as well as the veracity of the stories perpetuated by them
