We rigorously calculated for the first time all the inter-electrode and pixel resistances of thin-film transistor liquid crystal displays (TFT-LCDs) by using the total power dissipation inside a liquid crystal cell. The power dissipation was obtained from the three-dimensional potential distribution profiles obtained from the continuity equation. The motional equation of the liquid crystals was based on a tensorial formulation. The effects of the lateral fields generated by multiple electrodes of finite sizes were taken into account in the simulation.
