It is now well-established that for photosynthetic bacteria, the aerobic-to-microaerophilic transition activates the membrane-bound sensor kinase RegB, which subsequently phosphorylates the transcriptional activator RegA, thereby inducing elevated levels of intracellular photosynthetic membranes.
