Since October 2015 there is a political discussion going on in the Netherlands around the requiring of compulsory insurance for the self-employed. In this thesis, the insurance conduct of self-employees is examined on the basis of previously written literature and structured interviews with ten self-employees. The research suggest that distinguishing between different types of self-employed is important for policy. It depends on the type of self-employment whether or not the employee needs public support in insuring against structural risks on the labour market. For the self-employees who are not interested in public influence, it seems that alternative ways of insuring are developing. Those alternatives can only (continue to) be successful...
