This thesis elaborates on the discourse surrounding the Muslim woman in the West German feminist magazine EMMA. It looks at how feminist publishers at the EMMA magazine perceived the Muslim woman from the 1970’s to 80’s in context of their own emancipation movement. The creation of a discourse always uncovers a lot about those who created it. Henceforth, it claims that the feminists of that time created a discourse of the Muslim woman for several reasons. First, to secure their own emancipation status but ‘othering’ the Muslim women also revealed a general negative attitude of the Western world towards the Muslim as such.
