Motion detection plays an important role in visual systems. On the basis of Reichardt's model of motion detection for insects an engineering model of motion detectors with multiple-channels has been proposed in this article. This model is capable of detecting direction and transverse angular velocity in a wide available range in real time. Not only can it detect the motion of a pattern with a discriminatable outline and edge, but also detect the motion of a texture pattern without a discriminatable outline and edge.8 page(s
