Doing politics or selling out? Living the fat body

The article focuses on the problems related to obesity in women. The author realized that when she imagined her body in this setting, she could not think of it as being fat--that the women around her who were revealing their bodies were fat, but she couldn't bring herself to envisage the reality of her own fat body, even in her own private daydream. Undoubtedly, the author promulgates a powerful and important message: the social hatred of fat is really baseless and unfounded. Fat women try to avoid the negative response their fat body elicits, by employing behaviors that have them attempting to "pass" as thin, or at least to mark them as being in the process of transformation to a thinner, more normative form.13 page(s
