The legal environment relating to heritage in Australia is complex, and this complexity is reflected in the provision for buffer zones around its World Heritage Properties. There is heritage legislation at each level of government in the Australian Federation, and, just as there is no one comprehensive piece of legislation relating to heritage places in Australia, there is also no general and comprehensive piece of legislation relating to buffer zones. The relevant provisions, though, are an interesting mix of different approaches that would repay further research.14 page(s
