Är vi för unga för demokrati? : En beskrivning av metodutvecklingen i arbetet med att öka ungas deltagande och inflytande i Västerås stad.

Previous research has shown the fact that the groups of youths who often are asked to participate and influence through various dialogues are the groups who are already politically engaged, precisely because they are easily accessible. This results in an uneven distribution and dissatisfaction of the groups who are excluded from having influences in the dialogue between youths and politicians. The aim of this study is, by previous research and different theories and main concepts, describe the development of method for the current process of working in the municipality project UNIK in Västerås. As students and as representatives of Mälardalens högskola we have been participating and observed the development of methods that been used in the project, and which methods municipals can work with to identify and activate youths in local politics. The essay and the project are both assumed from Erik Amnås theory about youth's political participation. We begin with presenting the problem that is shown in the previous research. Subsequently, we present the main theories and concepts that is relevant for the study, and which we also base our discussion on. The analysis contains two parts: first we analyze the development of methods for the project and then also results of the development in relatives to our main theories. The conclusion of this study has resulted in two methods that can be used by municipalities to increase the participation and influence of youths in the local politics; a tool to identify youths political dedication and a type of structure for a civic counsel of youths
