The article makes a reading and interpretation of the peri-urban landscape of Cuenca, in Ecuador. A case study, San Joaquin is analyzed. The paper departs from a historical recount of the occupation of this territory, and it intends to reveal the internal logic of this last remain of agricultural land. The article is developed in two parts, which explore the conformation and the current state of this landscape. The first part analyses the historic trajectory of occupation of these rural lands. The second part makes an spatial analysis of its landscape morphology, exposing the main elements that shape it, and which are also the spatial support to the great variety of social and economic interplay between its population and the city. ...
