This research investigates the use of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) in a Visible Light Positioning (VLP) solution. The system does not require a backbone network where all LEDs broadcast information in a non-synchronized way to a mobile device. This should limit the installation time and cost in order to facilitate implementation in current lighting installations. From the auto-correlation peak value, the received optical power is calculated which is used by the position algorithm. Due to the asynchronous system, the auto-correlation peak will randomly interfere with the cross-correlation of other codes (Multiple Access Interference (MAI)).
