My diploma thesis researches Matter Painting in the 2nd half of the 20th century, which content is about social changes after the Second World War, undermining the individual’s freedom and triggering major changes in art. The theoretical part of the thesis describes the concept of texture and monochromacy in art. Following a review of the Abstract Expressionism in the United States, I highlight the representatives of this movement and describe in more detail their research of monochromacy. The thesis then presents art in Europe and individual artists who have been and still are the pillars of post-war painting of the 60s, particularly Tàpies and Slovenian artist Janez Bernik.
