Students’ Ability in English Conversation at MAN 2 Martapura Banjar Regency

Husnul Yaqin, M.Ed, (II). Dra. Hj. Nida Mufidah, M.Pd.\ud This thesis describes about the students’ ability in English Conversation at MAN 2 Martapura Banjar Regency in Academic Years 2009-2010. The problems of this research are formulated as follow: 1). How is Students’ Ability in English Conversation at MAN 2 Martapura Banjar Regency in Academic Year 2009-2010?, 2). What are the factors that influence Students’ Ability in English Conversation MAN 2 Martapura Banjar Regency?.\ud The purpose of this study is to know the level of students’ ability in English conversation in Academic Year 2009-2010, and to know what factors that influence Students’ Ability in English Conversation at MAN 2 Martapura Banjar Regency.\ud The population in this research is all of class XI Language Program and XI Science Program in Academic Year 2009-2010, there are 64 students. The writer uses Proportional Random Sampling Technique, sample of this research are taken the population of some students, there are 20 students.\ud The data of this thesis are collected through oral test, observation, interview, documentary, and questionnaire. Data processing in this research is divided into five phases: editing, coding, scoring, tabulating, and data interpretation. Then, the data are analyzed by descriptive qualitative, and concluded by using inductive method.\ud The result of this research indicates that the students’ ability in English conversation at MAN 2 Martapura Banjar Regency in academic year 2009-2010 is generally is middle category. It is known from the mean (the average score) are 151,7. So, Problems of class XI Language Program and XI Science Program of MAN 2 Martapura are differences. Class XI Language Program is better than class XI Science Program, because they have more activities to learn English in a week to develop English skill. But class XI Science Program has no more time to learn English to develop their English skill. Based on some problems is English speaking skill for the students at class XI Language Program and XI Science Program of MAN 2 Martapura, found some difficulties, those are comprehension, pronunciation, grammar, fluently, and vocabulary
