Common Errors in Translating Indonesian into English Made by the Second Year Students of Islamic Senior High School Nurul Hijrah Jorong Tanah Laut Regency in Academic Year 2008/ 2009

H. Hamdan, M. Pd, (2) Nurlaila Kadariyah, S. Ag.\ud \ud Translation is an important aspect for students to get knowledge, to express idea and to improve their ability in English learning. Actually, there are still errors which done by students in translating, especially in translating Indonesian into English which done by students at Islamic Senior High School Nurul Hijrah Jorong.\ud This research is aimed to know the degree of common errors in translating Indonesian into English which done by the second year students at Islamic Senior High School Nurul Hijrah Jorong, to know the common errors which done by students in translating Indonesian into English, and the factors that influence it. The subject of this research is all second year students of Islamic Senior High School Nurul Hijrah Jorong Tanah Laut Regency in academic year 2008/ 2009. The total numbers of the subjects are 38 students. The object of this research is common errors in translating Indonesian into English which done by second year students of Islamic Senior High School Nurul Hijrah Jorong and the factors that influence it. \ud To collect the data, the writer used written test, questionnaires, interview, and observation. From result of this research is obtained data which show the degree of common errors in translating Indonesian into English which done by second year students of Islamic Senior High School Nurul Hijrah Jorong in academic year 2008/ 2009 by the score of mean is 61, 2 and included in fair error category. \ud The common errors in translating Indonesian into English which done by students are grammar which consists of verb choice (tenses), using of BE, preposition, article, relative pronoun, singular and plural forms, auxiliary verb, modal, and also degree of comparison. The other parts are made in word choice (vocabulary) and spelling of the word.\ud The degree of common errors in translating Indonesian into English are influenced by some factors, they are: students’ ability and grammar, vocabulary and spelling which included in fair category, students’ learning activity and teacher’s activity in English teaching included in fair category, teacher’s educational background included in high category, but teacher’s experience in teaching included in low category or less experience. While the facility factors included in low category and school’s environment is good enough to support English teaching learning activity
