The electric power in Paraná state (Brazil) and the first feasibility studies energy in the Iguaçu river (1891-1913)

Da análise de algumas fontes oficiais do início do governo republicano paranaense (1904-1913), discutem-se as especulações em torno da geração e comércio de energia elétrica, principalmente para a capital Curitiba. Neste momento, surgem as primeiras ações para implementação de hidrelétricas no rio Iguaçu, o que inaugurou uma prática que se intensificaria ao longo do Século XX, principalmente após a década de 1970, com a construção de cinco barragens ao longo do seu percurso.In this paper we can see how the discourse around the need for "illumination" and "force" legitimized the beginning of a hydropower policy in Paraná State, Brazil. From the analysis of some officials sources of the beginning of the republican government of the Paraná State, Brazil (1904-1913), discusses the speculation around the generation and sale of electric power, mainly for capital Curitiba. At the time, emerge the first actions for implementation of hydroelectric on the Iguaçu River, inaugurating a practice that would intensify throughout the twentieth century, especially after the 1970s, with the construction of five dams along its route
