Inhalation induction technique in rats : a comparative study

O objeto deste trabalho foi comparar o emprego do éter e halotano em ratos, na indução anestésica e na obtenção de via aérea, utilizando dois tipos de técnica anestksica. Cada procedimento anestésico foi realizado por investigadores com graus diversos de experiência em anestesia. Utilizou-se 39 ratos Wistar, fêmeas, peso entre 160 e 300g divididos em dois grupos. No gmpo 1 (n=15), realizou-se induções anestésicas convencionais com éter etilico administrado por bucha ou halotano (3%) por vaporizador calibrado em fluxo de 2 L min' 0,. No gnipo 2 (n=24), as induções com os dois agentes realizaram-se com buclias de peso fixo (2,5g) impregnadas com volumes definidos: 7ml de éter ou 2ml de halotano. Os resultados demonstram que a padronização da técnica de indução com bucha, contendo volume conhecido de agente volátil, propicia 4 vantagens: 1) encurta o tempo de indução anestésica pelo halotana; 2) facilita laringoscopia e intubação orotraqueal com éter e lialotano, principalmente quando os investigadores são inexperientes; 3) diminui a mortalidade; 4) diminui os custos pelo menor consumo de halotano.The purpose of this work was to compare the use of ether and halothane in rats, during anesthetic induction and orotracheal intubation by means of two anesthetic techniques. Each anesthetic procedure was perfomed by investigators with different degrees of experience. Thirty nine female Wistar rats, weighing 160 to 300g were divided in two groups. In group 1 (n=15) the induction of anesthesia adopted the conventional technique: ether administered through cotton wool ar halothane (3%) delivered by calibrated vaporizer (2L min 1O2,). In group 2 (n=24) the cotton wool pieces had fixed weight (2.5g) and were impregnated with well defined volumes of anesthetic agents: 7 ml of ether or 2 ml of halothane. The results of this study show that the standardized pattern of inhalation technique, with well defined amounts of anesthetics elecited four main advantages: I) it shortens the time of halothane anesthetic induction; 2) it facilitates laryngoscopy and orotracheal intubation with both ether and halothane, especialy for inexperient investigators; 3) it decreases the mortality; 4) it lessens costs due to minor consumption of halothane
