The use of diaries in the university formation of English teachers: a call for reflection

v. 21, n. 1, jan./jun. 2010.Este artigo traz algumas considerações a respeito do uso de diários dialogados como meio de possibilitar a reflexão entre alunos-professores de um curso de Letras de uma universidade pública no estado de Goiás. Os pressupostos teóricos assumidos no texto são os de que por meio da reflexão os alunos-professores podem repensar suas ações e, assim, seu trabalho em sala de aula. É possível concluir que os alunos-professores se beneficiaram dessa ferramenta para compartilhar suas opiniões, expectativas e incertezas sobre o ensino de língua inglesa. Apesar de inicialmente muitos alunos apresentarem dúvidas e restrições quanto ao uso dos diários, ao final da pesquisa, todos os participantes reconheceram esse instrumento como valioso promotor de discussão e reflexão.This article highlights certain considerations on the use of diaries as a means towards fostering reflection among student-teachers in a Letters Course at a public university in the state of Goiás. The text is based on the theoretical assumptions that through reflection studentteachers can rethink their actions and thus, their performance in the classroom. It can be concluded that student-teachers benefit from this tool to share their opinions as well as their expectations and uncertainties about teaching English with their supervisors. Although some students at first did not consider the diary the best means, all participants ended up recognizing its relevance as a reflection-inducing device
