Análise de referências em teses como apoio à tomada de decisão no desenvolvimento de coleções da biblioteca universitária

The work here presented accomplishes the study of the use of technical and scientific information, through the analysis of the references used in the elaboration of academic theses. The quantitative research uses bibliometrics to support the decision taking in the development of collections in a library. The group of extracted data of the protected theses is analyzed among the years from 1999 to 2006, guided by teachers belonging to the Department of Administrative Sciences of the School of Administration of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) representing, until this date, a total of 80 theses available in complete text in Internet. The general objective is to create a database of the references bibliography of theses of a masters degree program and later to study the use of the technical and scientific information through the analysis of the citations. The specific objectives are to collect the available theses in digital format, that will serve as base for the analysis; to model and to develop a database of the bibliographical references used in all the theses; and to create queries in the database allowing to analyze the typology of the bibliographical materials used in the citations, its obsolescence, the titles of mentioned newspapers and the language of the consulted materials. The obtained results demonstrate that the information are useful for decision taking of the administrators' of the library, in what they concern the development of collections
