A via da 5-lipoxigenase (5-LO) e responsavel pela conversao do acido araquidonico (AA) em leucotrienos (LTs). Os LTs sao importantes mediadores pro-inflamatorios encontrados em altas concentracoes na maioria das lesoes inflamatorias. A via da 5-LO desempenha papel central na resposta inflamatoria as lesoes, ja que a mesma e capaz de desenvolver e propagar a inflamacao. A participacao da 5-LO tem sido demonstrada em diferentes modelos de lesao hepatica, no entanto, ate o presente momento, sua participacao na hepatotoxicidade induzida pelo acetaminofeno (APAP) ainda nao foi investigada.
