Este estudo descreve a influência das características bióticas e abióticas na estrutura da ictiofauna que habita estandes das macrófitas aquáticas Eichhornia azurea e Eichhornia crassipes. Foram coletados 182 indivíduos de 27 espécies de peixes, no lago Camaleão, Amazônia Central. Valores de oxigênio dissolvido e temperatura da água variaram de 2,11 a 4,02mgL-1 e 29,17 a 30,93ºC para os estandes de E. crassipes, e de 1,29 a 2,59mgL-1 e 28,32 a 29,95ºC para E. azurea. Maior número de indivíduos (134), de espécies de peixes (24) e de biomassa de raízes (1572gm-2) foram obtidos em E. azurea.
