The incidence of collisions between birds and aircraft tends to increase with urban growth. The damage caused by these collisions involves human and material aspects. With the purpose of determining the situation in Brasilia, a survey of the birds was conducted in 2009 at the Brasilia International Airport. The objectives of the study were to identify the birds in the airport area, to compare the national bird-strike reports with those reports from Brasilia, to detect and suggest preventative measures for this area. The censuses conducted in the areas near the runways indicated that at Brasilia Airport, the lapwing (Vanellus chilensis (MOLINA, 1782)) was the most abundant species, but the species that offered the greatest risk of collisions...
