This thesis analyses new ways of interpreting and producing classical music using two examples, the Komische Oper Berlin and Metropolitan Opera New York - two highly influential hubs of classical music. The thesis sets out to critically assess whether and how these institutions succeed in attracting new audiences by means of modern production and marketing while keeping high level of per- formed art
