The Subject of Death and Dying in Childrenn's literature

My thesis deals with the subject of death in children's literature. My focus is given to various fairy tales containing death and description of its aspects. The theoretic part concerns basic terms, history of fairy tales, the most common heroes as well as description and interpretation of different ways of decease. The importance of fairy tales is mentioned; mechanisms of action in tales are also noted. The mentality of children of preschool age is described, emphasizing children's vision of death, their experience with passing and consequently grieving process. The practical part contains common fairy tales aimed at pre-school readers mentioning any form of death. The collected data is processed qualitatively; variability in types of death as well as the types of dying protagonists are observed. Particular attention is given to books that are meant to present death to child readers
