ABSTRACT This thesis deals with radionuclide contamination of agricultural soils in the areas affected by the nuclear power plant Fukushima Daiichi in Japan. The work is presented a review of literature focused on general information about ionizing radiation and its impact on the environment and its influence on terrestrial food chains. Additionally, the work paid attention to the reactor accident consequences on the environment compared with the Chernobyl accident. The next task was to compare the contents of radionuclides in various types of agricultural land in the vicinity of the nuclear power plants. The conclusion is devoted to the transfer of radionuclides in terrestrial food chains
