The Globe Artichoke (Cynara scolymus L.) is native to the Asia Minor and North Africa, where it spread further into the rest of the Word from. Artichoke was domesticated mainly in the Mediterranean, where it is cultivated the most nowadays and also serves as a part of common cuisine. The Globe Artichoke is grown for its delicious bittersweet flavour and therapeutic effects. The consumer part are unopened flower heads which consist of pappy bracts and fleshy flower base. The most valuable part is the 'heart', but all parts of plant can be used. This plant has an excellent dietetic, choleretik, antioxidant and diuretic effects, sometimes even aphrodisiac effects.
