This project offers a proposal and a solution of an equipment for measuring of solar radiation intensity. It lists reasons why to measure intensity, contains fundamentals of photovoltaics, deals with how electric energy is obtained from a solar radiation and how the intensity of solar radiation affects the power output of photovoltaic devices. The project also deals with prime facts about 4 – 20 mA current loop and serial RS-232 communication. Proposed design is based on usage of the pyranometer CMP 21, a PIC microcontroller and a current loop to create a device which gathers data and transfers them to a PC for further processing
