This research addresses the importance of iodine as a micronutrient for the human body. Although it seems that the required daily intake is small and it is calculated in micrograms, it is equally important for the organism. The issue deals and summarizes the occurrence of this element in food. Insufficient or excess intake causes serious illness. Based on this research, it is possible to imagine a supply of iodine in the Czech Republic and in the world. The collected information shows that iodine intake is different and it is depending on food, health status or age. The locality in which we live plays a big roli.
