This bachelor thesis describes ground effect, its influence on car aerodynamics and its use in motorsport. The thesis describes the dependence of downforce created by ground effect on the design and set-up of the race car, as well as on the downforce generating parts' relative movement in relation to the track during a race. Advantages and disadvantages of the use of ground effect aerodynamics are discussed as well. Next, there is brief summary of the use of ground effect throughout the history of motorsport. At the end, attention is paid to modern race and sport cars using the ground effect aerodynamics
