Rakša: The Scout Movement and Questions of Freedomfighting

Bachelor thesis Rakša:The Scout Movement and the Questions of Freedom-fighting reflects the preparation, process and results of a education-dramatic project of the same name. It was realized with two Scout groups consisting of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts aged twelve to fifteen. Most of the participants had little or no previous experience with drama. The groups differed in the strength of friendships bonds among their members. One of the groups has operated as a Scout troop for an extended period of time, the other came into existence solely for the purpose of the project. As a theme of the project, I chose the life story of Dagmar Skálová, a lifelong Scout and a political prisoner of the Communist regime, who was later awarded the T. G. Masaryk medal for her achievements. I attempted to adapt this theme through the medium of structured drama. The goal of this thesis is to use the story to emphasize freedom-fighting, improve the capability of evaluating one's actions from different viewpoints and broaden the scale of identification with certain Scouting ideals. The thesis also attempts to identify the reasons, why certain parts of the project did not work as originally planned
